MODULES

What will you learn?

The curriculum covers the fundamental elements of learning and teaching in practice, with inclusivity and contemporary professional issues at its core. You will study three 20-credit core modules:

Unit 1 - Philosophy of education and theories of learning and teaching

(This unit lays the foundation for confident, reflective teaching practice. Learners explore the historical, philosophical, and cultural roots of education, examine the core values and beliefs that shape modern classrooms, and engage with key theories of learning and pedagogy. By the end, participants can critically connect theory to practice — understanding not just what they teach, but why it works.)

Unit 2 - Delivering effective teaching and learning and understanding educational assessment

(Focused on the practical craft of teaching, this unit equips learners to design and deliver engaging, inclusive lessons and to apply assessment effectively — both formative and summative. Topics include teaching and learning theories, active and inclusive classroom strategies, fair and authentic assessment, and reflective practice, giving educators the tools to improve outcomes for every learner.)

Unit 3 - Contemporary teaching in higher and professional education

(This unit prepares educators to lead as well as teach. Learners examine the relationship between pedagogy and andragogy, explore educational leadership and its impact on teaching improvement, and develop the ability to critically evaluate and adapt their own practice. It’s designed for those ready to grow from effective classroom teacher into reflective, forward-thinking education professional.)

The ICEL Experience
